Mobile Signal Booster for a Bach or Lifestyle Block
Weak One NZ, Spark or 2degrees signal at the bach or on a lifestyle block? How to pick a 4G booster kit, from $479 NZD, with free delivery.
A bach on the coast or a house at the end of a long gravel drive often has the same problem: one bar on the deck, nothing inside. Thick walls, metal roofs and hills between you and the tower all eat the signal. A mobile signal booster takes the weak signal from outside and brings it indoors. Here is how to choose one for a bach or lifestyle block.
First, check the signal outside
A booster cannot create coverage. It needs some signal outside to work with. Walk around the section with your phone, including the highest spot you can safely reach, like the roofline or a deck rail. One or two steady bars outside is usually enough for a booster to work well indoors.
- Note which network you use: One NZ, Spark or 2degrees.
- Check where the signal is best. That is where the outdoor antenna should go.
- Measure the floor area you want covered, in square metres.
Which band do you need in rural NZ?
All three networks finished closing 3G in 2026, so everything now runs on 4G and 5G. Out of town, 4G on 700 MHz travels furthest and gets through walls best. 1800 MHz is also used by all three networks and carries more data when a tower is closer. 5G on 3500 MHz rarely reaches rural properties, so most baches and lifestyle blocks are best served by a 700 MHz or 700/1800 MHz kit.
Booster kits that fit a bach or lifestyle block
- Mono Core Signal Booster V2: 700 MHz, up to 300 m², $479 NZD. A good fit for a small bach where only 700 MHz reaches you.
- Dual Core Signal Booster V2: 700/1800 MHz, up to 300 m², $583 NZD. The usual choice for a typical house on any of the three networks.
- Dual Plus Signal Booster V2: 700/1800 MHz, up to 500 m², $990 NZD. For a larger home, or a home with an attached garage or sleepout.
- Go-Voyager Signal Booster: 700/850/1800 MHz, $899 NZD. For a campervan, ute or caravan rather than a building.
If the tower is far away, an LPDA Antenna ($130 NZD) gives the outdoor side a more focused, directional pickup.
Setting it up
Mount the outdoor antenna as high as you can and point it towards the nearest tower of your network. Run the cable inside to the booster unit, then place the indoor antenna in the room where you need signal most. Keep the indoor and outdoor antennas well apart, ideally with the roof or a wall between them, so the booster does not feed back on itself.
Delivery and costs

FAQ
Will a booster work at a bach with no signal at all?
No. It needs at least a weak signal outside. Check the roofline and the highest point of the section first.
Do I need a different kit for One NZ, Spark and 2degrees?
Not usually. All three use 4G on 700 MHz and 1800 MHz, so a 700/1800 MHz kit such as the Dual Core V2 covers them.
Can one booster cover the house and the shed?
Only if they are close together and within the kit's listed area. For separate buildings far apart, each building usually needs its own kit.
